Dlement does not consider himself a DJ but a music connoisseur who’s been collecting, mixing, and arranging music for over 20 years. From an early age, music had influenced him, gave him structure, and kept him focus, motivated and appreciative through his journey of life. So what better way for him to share these elements with others of nostalgic past times as well as the present sounds but through his musical mixes.
Born in Grenada, West Indies, Dlement was exposed to Calypso which included story-telling and commentary which then lead to Soca which was popular around carnival time. He also grew up hearing the sounds of Gospel, Country music, and Lovers Rock. During his time in middle school, he discovered alternative Radio stations from neighboring islands, which lead to his introduction to Hip-hop & R&B. Here, he was impressed with the mix tapes by sound systems of Chinese Laundry, Maxamillion, the “One Hand Bandit”, and many others who he blames for over working his size C batteries of his boom box. But, it was during this time he started to develop his foundation, style, and identity after listening to the eccentric sounds of Stone Love, which helped hone his musical skills and with saying that he acknowledges the hardworking djs and selectors in the business.
Not forgetting his place of birth, Grenada, he was also influenced by some of the local musical geniuses and became more interested in juggling from observing the best in Grenada from "Small Clothes", "Bain JR", Joey T, Ronnie the Live Wire, Hott Wax, Fisher, DJ Victor, Gap and many others. He even tried out at local radio stations in Grenville and Carriacou.
Arriving in New York some years later, he would embrace DJ’s from “Red Alert” to Dahved Levy who are still his favorites. He started from mixing pre-recorded cassettes, Sony Discmans , Turntables, Dual CD players, to now Mp3 files on a DJ Controller. He’s also not a stranger to juggling house parties, working backyard jams, and being part of a sound system, (which was a life learning experience for Dlement and has moved forward onto a solo career), he has learned that no matter what, "Sink or Float”, he will continue to express his love for the art of music in a respectable, credited, and entertaining way for any and everyone from all walks of life to enjoy.
